thrush: A yeast infection in the mouth that resembles leukoplakia but that has a different pathology.

TNM system: A system used to determine the stage or extent of a cancer. TNM is based on the size and extent of the tumor (T), whether or not the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes (N) and whether or not the cancer has metastasized (M).

tongue cancer: A form of mouth cancer that occurs on the tongue.

tumor: A growth of cancerous cells.

ultraviolet (UV) light: Light that has a wavelength that is shorter than that of visible light; UV light is responsible for sunburns and can be a significant risk factor in skin cancer development, including lip cancer.
